In a remarkable step towards advancing technical education and capacity building, the Digital Rector of Niger State Polytechnic Zungeru, Ambassador Professor Ibrahim Umar Kontagora (PhD), officially flagged off the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Training Programme for staff and students of the institution. The training focuses on developing practical competencies in Network Support Specialization, a vital skill area in today’s digital economy.
The event commenced with an opening prayer led by the Director of Academic Planning (DAP), Dr. Balarabe, setting a reflective tone for the day’s activities. This was followed by the opening remarks from the Director of the Skills Development Centre (SDC), Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi Nagya, who highlighted the importance of equipping both staff and students with hands-on skills that complement their academic knowledge.
The Guest of Honour, Engr. Tanimu Yanajin of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, delivered a special address, commending the Digital Rector for his visionary leadership and commitment to transforming Niger State Polytechnic into a model institution of innovation and excellence. He emphasized that the Rector’s numerous developmental projects have significantly repositioned the Polytechnic as a hub for technological advancement and skills acquisition.
Engr. Tanimu also enlightened participants on the importance of skill certification, noting that the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) framework enhances employability, fosters entrepreneurship, and prepares graduates to meet the dynamic demands of the modern workforce. He encouraged both staff and students to take full advantage of the training opportunity to improve their professional competence.
In his keynote address, Amb. Prof. Ibrahim Umar Kontagora, while declaring the training open, described the event as a milestone achievement in the Polytechnic’s continuous quest to produce innovative, skilled, and self-reliant graduates. He reiterated the institution’s commitment to aligning its programs with national and global standards that prioritize skill acquisition and practical learning.
According to him, the NSQ training marks a significant stride toward realizing one of the Polytechnic’s core objectives to nurture graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to the socio economic development of Niger State and Nigeria at large.
The event concluded with expressions of appreciation to all stakeholders and facilitators, as participants prepared to embark on the hands-on training sessions that promise to redefine their professional outlook.
